EDUCATION AND INTEGRAL TRAINING CENTER OF BARÚ HAS BETTER FACILITIES FOR THE WELFARE OF 250 STUDENTS
Petroterminal de Panamá, S.A. made a significant contribution to the Education and Integral Training Center of Barú, with the objective of benefiting 250 students who now have safer and more comfortable educational facilities that will allow them to improve the quality of their learning.
The students who attend this center are adolescents and young people at social risk or who dropped out of school at some point due to various factors and now could have an Integral High School with a disciplinary approach guided by the National Police.
This contribution is aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, since by improving educational infrastructure and providing the necessary resources for technical practices, Petroterminal de Panamá, S.A. contributes to equitable access to quality education that promotes technical and professional learning.
The contribution, amounting to B/.25,037.00, was used for the removal of damaged structures in the ceiling and roof of the main classroom, the installation of a water storage system with a capacity of 10,000 liters with its pump system for distribution in the building, among other repairs to the center’s infrastructure.
Several CAF (Development Bank of Latin America, 2016) studies point out that an adequate infrastructure is related to the improvement of the school environment, the academic interest of students, the reduction of absenteeism, the increase of teachers’ motivation, among other factors. A fact that shows the challenge for Panama: According to a study presented in May 2024 by the Ombudsman’s Office, 91% of 449 schools inspected in the country had deficient infrastructure. A challenge that we at PTP address from our Education and Culture pillar in coordination with schools and authorities.
