ORATORY AND MODEL CONTEST IN COMMEMORATION OF OCEANS MONTH IN PUERTO ARMUELLES AND CHIRIQUI GRANDE
In commemoration of Oceans Month, the educational communities of Puerto Armuelles and Chiriqui Grande participated in the successful Oratory and Model Contest, whose main objective was to sensitize students, parents and teachers on the importance of protecting the oceans, as well as to promote awareness of the problems facing marine ecosystems, such as pollution, overexploitation of resources and climate change.
The contest, held on September 25 and 26 at the Atlantic and Pacific Terminals of Petroterminal de Panama, S.A. (PTP), respectively, was attended by more than 80 people including students, parents and teachers from a total of 20 schools in Zones #13 of Bocas del Toro and #22 of Baru. The students competed in two categories: Lower Primary (1st to 4th grade) in the modality of environmental models, with the theme “Promoting the 3Rs: Care for the Oceans”, and Upper Primary (5th to 6th grade), in the category of public speaking, where the students presented their papers on the preservation of the oceans.
The jury, made up of teachers, environmental authorities and PTP staff from the environment section, evaluated the presentations on the basis of creativity, depth of the topic and communication skills.
With this activity, we were able to awaken a sense of shared responsibility among young people, empowering them to become agents of change within their communities, contributing to the care of our oceans and the welfare of our planet.
From PTP, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental education and the protection of the oceans, understanding that the future of our planet depends on the awareness of new generations. Through initiatives such as the Environmental Oratory and Model Contest, we seek not only to inspire young people to care for marine ecosystems, but also to strengthen the bond between the community and the shared responsibility of preserving the environment for future generations.
