TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS FROM PETROTERMINAL PANAMA, S.A. VISIT COMPANY FACILITIES
In the framework of the beginning of on-site classes in the country, PTP organized a visit to its facilities in Chiriqui Grande, Bocas del Toro, of the six (6) students from this area who received scholarships from the company, as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Program focused on the Community Development pillar.
The initiative was born in 2019, to carry out a scholarship program at the technical high school level aimed at young people from the District of Chiriqui Grande with the support of COSPAE, seeking not only to provide an educational opportunity, but also with the intention that they perform their professional practice in PTP and create a seedbed of potential candidates to fill vacant technical positions in the company.
In addition, PTP has invested in the education of these teenagers so that in the future they can opt for a university scholarship through the scholarship foundation of Petroterminal de Panamá, in one of the technical careers related to the bachelor’s degree they are currently pursuing, having as a priority the academic development of these young students as a key factor to improve their quality of life and that of their families in the future.
The 6 scholarship holders, accompanied by their guardians, were given a motivational talk by COSPAE and toured the Control Room and the Mechanics, Welding and Electricity Workshops at the Atlantic Terminal where they were able to learn from the employees of each area how the work is done in the field; additionally, they had the opportunity to share experiences and words of motivation and advice from some leaders of the company.
Since they started their technical high school in 2020, the young students have gone through different challenges and adversities due to the pandemic, which they have managed to overcome with great effort along with the support of their family. This year they are ready to begin the last year of their bachelor’s degree at the Instituto Profesional y Técnico de David (IPTD).
“With the scholarship program, we are betting on local talent,” commented Ana Alvarez, Human Resources Manager. “We wish all the best and look forward to receiving them for their professional internships.”
